I don’t see why CNX2 needs to go away at this time and like Dave says above is the way I plan to do it. It’s almost like old times, at least the results are the same except saving the finished NEF. If it’s an important picture, you can always save the finished TIFF. We can’t bring back old times, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy them.

Now, out to take some pictures, which I still enjoy doing. A friend once told me, he’s done investing in camera’s and now is investing in glass. Nikon and Canon both supply proprietary raw software. In Nikon’s case and since they refuse to share the “secrets” of their nef files I do not see how they could get away with not supplying a proprietary raw converter. Nothing else reads the various controls built into the camera – picture controls etc – so why put them there and not supply a means of using them?

Other raw converters approximate the pcs but it is just guess work albeit that they get fairly close – but they are not reading the camera settings.

So, I cannot agree that they have no obligation and I have an expectation that they will always provide proprietary software which will deal with my nef files and read the camera settings.
